About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee occupational safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability initiatives at U.S. and Canada operation sites and production locations
  • Manage, plan, and implement regional environmental, health, and safety programs and systems across multiple locations
  • Develop EHS programs and systems; monitor, trend, and report KPIs
  • Schedule and execute EHS program audits and inspections
  • Embed best-in-class EHS practices and report ESG performance
  • Support operational emissions reduction initiatives
  • Lead, coach, and develop Site and Zone EHS professionals
  • Ensure processes, documentation, and training for handling, storage, and transportation of dangerous goods are accurate and current
  • Implement sustainability strategies and initiatives and monitor site sustainability performance
  • Communicate with and influence regional site senior leadership to advance EHS and sustainability programs
  • Conduct EHS evaluations to assess risk and improve controls, processes, training, visual tools, and equipment
  • Review, analyze, develop, and communicate occupational health and safety programs and solutions
  • Generate and maintain reports; analyze injury trends and PPE needs
  • Oversee PPE purchases and approve safety statements of work, work instructions, and forms
  • Conduct comprehensive safety audits for designated at-risk sites
  • Deliver onsite and remote safety training for leadership and site management
  • Provide training on the Intelex Risk Management system
  • Support new site start-ups with required safety training curricula
  • Support environmental performance and reporting for air, waste, and water permitting compliance
  • Develop EHS professionals as domain experts and leaders
  • Use domain expertise, data, and reporting to solve problems, validate compliance, improve performance, and implement sustainable solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5–7 years of environmental, health and safety experience
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the supply chain and logistics industry
  • Knowledge of industry-related state and federal rules and regulations for hazardous and universal waste, stormwater, and permitting and compliance assurance
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Basics of lean manufacturing
  • Experience working with regulatory partners
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field (preferred)
  • Passion for sustainability and/or workplace safety
  • Knowledge of EHS in a warehousing/distribution environment
  • Availability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Solid leadership and customer service skills
  • Compliance with GXO COVID safety policies
  • May be required to pass a pre-employment drug test after receiving a conditional offer
