About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee occupational safety, environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across U.S. and Canada operation sites and production locations
- Manage, plan and implement regional environmental, health and safety programs and systems across multiple locations
- Develop EHS programs and systems, monitor and report KPIs, and execute audits and inspections
- Embed best-in-class EHS practices and report ESG performance
- Lead, coach and develop Site and Zone EHS professionals
- Ensure accurate documentation and training for handling, storage and transportation of dangerous goods
- Implement sustainability strategies and monitor site sustainability performance
- Communicate with and influence site senior leadership to advance EHS and sustainability initiatives
- Conduct EHS evaluations, assess risks and improve controls, processes, training, visual tools and equipment
- Review, analyze, develop and communicate occupational health and safety programs
- Generate reports and analyze injury trends to identify PPE modifications
- Oversee PPE purchases and approve safety statements of work, work instructions and forms
- Conduct comprehensive safety audits for designated at-risk sites
- Deliver onsite and remote safety training for leadership and site management
- Provide training on the Intelex Risk Management system
- Support new site start-ups with required safety training curricula
- Support environmental performance and reporting for air, waste and water permitting compliance
- Develop EHS professionals as domain experts and leaders
- Use expertise, data and reporting to solve problems, validate compliance and implement sustainable improvements
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5–7 years of environmental, health and safety experience
- At least 3 years in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the supply chain and logistics industry
- Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations for hazardous and universal waste, stormwater, permitting and compliance assurance
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Basics of lean manufacturing
- Experience working with regulatory partners
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field (preferred)
- Passion for sustainability and/or workplace safety
- Knowledge of EHS in a warehousing/distribution environment
- Availability to travel up to 50% of the time
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Solid leadership and customer service skills
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test may be required after a conditional offer
- Compliance with GXO COVID safety policies and applicable CDC, OSHA, state and local requirements
