About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead development of warehouse design packages including material flow diagrams, facility layouts, material handling equipment designs, automation designs, storage media designs, process designs, slotting and pick path analyses
  • Manage engineering activities during implementation, including automation and material handling vendor management and systems and equipment installation and testing
  • Collaborate with Data Analytics to analyze client data, order profiles, storage media application, product slotting, velocity, SKU affinities and ABC analysis
  • Prepare engineering calculations and operating concept documents covering capacity, facility sizing, zoning, slotting and waving
  • Facilitate reviews with engineering peers, WMS Implementation and operations work-stream leads
  • Design facility layouts, storage media and material flow with appropriate equipment
  • Support business development and RFP responses, including materials development and presentations to potential clients
  • Evaluate manual and automated warehouse solutions and develop ROI and payback analyses
  • Lead detailed engineering from conceptualization through implementation-ready design, including data analysis, material handling specifications, vendor quotes and AutoCAD layouts
  • Conduct joint planning sessions and gap analyses with clients; document scope changes and escalations
  • Prepare WMS configuration documentation covering locations, slotting, zoning, put-away and picking sequences and allocation rules
  • Support identification and design of WMS and interface requirements
  • Manage material handling and automation vendors through scheduling, permitting, installation, commissioning and punch lists
  • Validate equipment installation and conduct performance testing
  • Provide post-go-live support and troubleshooting
  • Lead, develop and mentor junior engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 4 years of engineering experience in supply chain management, logistics, warehousing or a related field
  • Experience leading Engineering teams
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • 8–10 years of experience as an Industrial Engineer (preferred)
  • Experience with advanced data tools such as SQL, Power BI and Python
  • Extensive AutoCAD experience
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Time study measurement, such as MOST, a plus
  • Third-Party Logistics (3PL), warehousing, distribution center or fulfillment experience
  • Analytical skills
  • Project and resource management experience
  • May be required to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must comply with GXO policies and applicable CDC, OSHA, state and local COVID safety requirements
