About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and support the Director, Trade Compliance in implementing and enhancing GXO’s global trade compliance program
- Serve as the lead United States trade compliance subject matter expert
- Establish and enhance export/import compliance standards, guidelines and monitoring procedures for U.S. operations
- Implement and assess ITAR/EAR, import and customs compliance controls through training, communication and process improvements
- Identify and address compliance risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner with operational leadership, customers and functional teams to implement trade compliance controls
- Maintain DDTC registration and reporting requirements with internal stakeholders and external counsel
- Oversee ITAR- and EAR-regulated operations, risk mitigation and process improvements
- Monitor and interpret ITAR, EAR, customs and sanctions regulatory developments
- Provide operational and reporting support for ACE-related queries
- Support business units with import, export, sanctions and customs compliance matters
- Standardize trade compliance processes for North and South American offices
- Review and enhance Restricted Party Screening and Enhanced Due Diligence processes
- Support internal investigations and coordinate corrective actions
- Assist with compliance audits, visits, reviews, awareness and training on the GXO Code of Business Ethics, anti-bribery and anti-trust policies
- Travel primarily within the USA
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- 7–10 years of work experience in U.S. import/export regulations and trade compliance
- Strong expertise in U.S. customs software and systems, ACE and EEI filings
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders across operational, commercial and corporate functions
- Experience with Mexico and Canadian customs frameworks
- Advanced knowledge of export regulations, ITAR, EAR and customs regulations
- Advanced knowledge of United States economic sanctions regulations, especially OFAC sanctions
- General knowledge of U.S. Department of Commerce BIS and U.S. State Department DDTC export control regulations, and DCSA
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel up to 25%, primarily within the United States
- Free trade qualification experience (USMCA and IMMEX) preferred
- Knowledge of logistics and/or supply chain business preferred
- Experience working with 3PL customers on import and export issues preferred
- Knowledge of FAR and DEFAR compliance preferred
