About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own end-to-end delivery for the dominAI product
- Turn product goals into executable plans and reliable stakeholder commitments
- Line-manage a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Set expectations, provide direct feedback and conduct performance and development conversations
- Develop future technical leaders
- Stay hands-on in the codebase and take on delivery work when needed
- Own team hiring, define profiles, run recruitment processes and justify headcount
- Partner with the Product Manager to understand the commercial environment, challenge assumptions and negotiate scope and timelines
- Advocate for technical investment that supports future delivery
- Collaborate with the technical lead and senior specialists on technical direction, design and architecture
- Shape the team environment and maintain alignment with Product, Field Engineering and senior stakeholders
- Build out one of the two dominAI sub-teams as the team grows
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience leading and line-managing a software engineering team
- Experience building and shipping web applications and remaining hands-on in a codebase
- Experience with TypeScript, React and Node, or another web stack
- Experience leading AI/ML engineers
- Knowledge of integrating research-oriented AI/ML work into agile software delivery
- Genuine desire to pursue engineering management as a craft
- Experience partnering with Product to shape priorities and challenge scope
- Experience handling underperformance, conflict, ambiguity and difficult conversations with senior stakeholders
- Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Vetted status to at least SC level
- Experience growing a team through hiring and developing people into senior roles is advantageous
- Experience delivering data-intensive, real-time, distributed or mission-critical products is helpful
- Familiarity with defence, military modelling and simulation, C2 systems, or another regulated and security-conscious environment is helpful
- Willingness to travel to deployments, hackathons and industry events
