About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide basic breastfeeding education and ongoing support to WIC mothers
  • Maintain a caseload and conduct routine follow-ups through in-person, phone, virtual, home, or hospital visits
  • Assist with common breastfeeding concerns and provide encouragement and guidance
  • Document participant interactions accurately and in compliance with program guidelines
  • Refer participants to Nutritionists or supervisors when needs exceed the role’s scope
  • Support prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups
  • Connect participants with community resources and services
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and peer counselor sessions
  • Assist with clinic operations, including satellite clinic support as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with program standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Personal experience successfully breastfeeding at least one child (per PA WIC guidelines)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Reliable transportation
  • Experience in WIC or a similar community-based role preferred
  • Familiarity with the PENN Data System preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Participation in satellite clinics may be required
  • Must maintain confidentiality and comply with all program standards
