About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Ensure the quality of estimates and takeoffs, serving as the primary bridge between Handoff and its clients.
Create QA criteria and systems to verify scope, quantities, materials, SKUs, and client preferences.
Coordinate the delivery of estimates within 48 hours for enterprise clients, including residential and commercial projects, new construction, and remodels.
Create and review detailed material lists and material-level estimates.
Tailor estimates to clients’ preferred SKUs, sizes, technical specifications, brands, product lines, colors, and finishes.
Communicate with contractors, suppliers, and clients by phone, video call, or messaging.
Manage estimators, ensuring quality and speed.
Support computer vision training by guiding the annotation and interpretation of construction drawings.
Collaborate with machine learning engineers, AI engineers, and full-stack developers on product improvements.
Create test cases and reference estimates, and review AI-generated estimates.
Investigate errors, identify root causes, and improve estimate performance.
Manage operational efficiency within cost, quality, and speed targets.

Requirements

What you’ll need

3+ years of experience in residential construction, including remodeling, ground-up construction, high-volume residential construction, custom homes, design-build, single-family, or multifamily projects.
Hands-on experience reading construction drawings and performing takeoffs, ideally using tools such as PlanSwift, PrebuiltML, OST, or Bluebeam.
Familiarity with estimating, construction management, or project management software such as Buildertrend, JobTread, or Procore.
Interest in transitioning from a traditional construction role to a position closer to product, software, and AI within a startup.
Strong ownership and sense of urgency, taking ultimate responsibility for estimate quality and representing Handoff effectively to clients.
Hands-on field or trade experience is a major plus; experience as a foreman, installer, inspector, electrician, carpenter, plumber, technician, QA specialist, or in a similar role.
Solid understanding of end-to-end residential construction workflows, from foundations through finishes.
Experience working closely with software, product, or engineering teams.
Experience at high-volume residential builders or construction materials suppliers.
Familiarity with AI, automation, or digital tools applied to construction.
