About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Write content and copy appealing to academic audiences for direct-to-consumer campaigns
- Create and maintain academic subject-area catalogs, including title coding, copywriting, proofreading, and entering extras
- Write teaching guides for college and high school levels and coordinate freelance guide creation
- Engage with potential adopters and academic audiences to promote trade titles, answer inquiries, and support course adoption opportunities
- Assist with customer service tasks, including email queries and the desk/exam copy process
- Attend academic conferences, coordinate author travel, create promotional materials, help set up exhibit booths, recommend and sell books, and follow up on requests
- Contribute to the HarperAcademic Calling departmental podcast series
- Identify opportunities for trade titles in academic settings
- Collaborate with department colleagues on ad hoc assignments
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
- 2-3 years of prior publishing experience
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management
- Ability to set priorities while under pressure
- Excellent communication and multitasking skills
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and blogging platforms
- Ability to travel to academic and library conferences as needed
- Links to writing samples required
- Academic marketing experience preferred
- Academic writing background preferred
- Knowledge of social media for marketing purposes
- Cover letters strongly preferred
