About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and refine the cover development process
- Design and art direct a list of romance and women’s fiction books
- Collaborate with and manage illustrators, in-house designers and freelance designers
- Keep creative contributors on schedule to meet printer dates
- Contribute independently and collaboratively to department goals
- Prioritize, multitask and manage resources across multiple projects
- Meet deadlines and manage budgets for assigned titles
- Regularly check in with Publishers and the Creative Director
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of progressive experience art directing and designing adult fiction titles
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in the publishing industry
- Experience managing illustrators, letterers, flatters and freelance designers, keeping track of schedules
- Expert understanding of the needs of fiction titles from early development through printed book stages
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Positive, can-do attitude and ability to work well with different types of personalities
- Expert skills in Adobe Creative Suite in a Mac-based environment
- Advanced understanding of offset printing and the print industry
- Experience prepping files for the printer and reviewing proofs and special specs
