About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist the Senior Managing Editor with setting up titles internally, updating the title plan, and inputting sales conference materials
- Prepare notes and trackers for editorial team meetings and assist with mailings
- Support Production Editors with copyediting, reviewing proofreader’s marks, checking corrections, preparing manuscripts for interior design, and performing formatting proofs
- Fact check citations, Scripture references, quotations, and sourced material
- Copyedit and proof back cover copy, review final jackets before printing, and update reprint corrections
- Review proposals and provide feedback on concept, writing, and marketplace analysis
- Assist with sales conference preparation, initial manuscript reads, and team meetings
Requirements
What you’ll need- Available to work in a full-time capacity in 2027 or 2028
- Open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to 1 year of work experience
- Available to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 7 to August 12, 2027
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays mandatory in-office at the Nashville headquarters; Mondays and Thursdays remote
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Resume and cover letter required; cover letter addressed to “Hiring Team”
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program preferred
- Passion for books
- Strong writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail
- Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and willingness to learn house style conventions
- Experience with Microsoft Word, including tracking changes and commenting
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat, including marking up PDFs and commenting
- Excellent organization and ability to prioritize tasks
- Great interpersonal skills
- English, Journalism, or Publishing concentration preferred
