About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise law firm and legal department leaders on how AI changes competitive position, including practices/domains, clients, types of work, and investment priorities
- Advise firms and legal departments on measuring AI's impact on cost, speed, and value of legal work
- Help law firms evaluate changes to fee structures and value models
- Help legal departments demonstrate the business value created by legal work
- Advise customers on redesigning legal operating models, including organization, support, staffing, team structures, and AI-related roles
- Help managing partners, general counsel, and finance leaders build cases for change for partnerships, boards, internal stakeholders, and executive teams
- Build diagnostics, frameworks, and leadership readouts for strategy and economics engagements
- Convert engagement learnings into reusable materials for the wider team
- Join Practice Directors and account teams for customer conversations requiring strategy and economics expertise
- Help build Harvey's strategy and economics offering as an early senior specialist in the Transformation Office
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of experience, including significant time shaping strategy, pricing or operating decisions
- Experience in a law firm's strategy, pricing or practice management team, legal operations, external counsel or law firm management, or as chief of staff to a general counsel
- Experience in a legal-sector consulting practice is a strong plus
- Deep fluency in legal economics, including leverage, practice-group and matter profitability, pricing and fee structures, cost-center dynamics, outside-counsel spend, and measuring the value of legal work
- Track record of advising senior legal leaders through high-stakes decisions, with the presence to hold a room that includes finance
- Clear point of view on how AI will change the business of law, grounded in legal economics
- Evidence of building frameworks or methods that others adopted and kept using
- Judgment to discuss efficiency in a way that builds support for change rather than fear about displacement
- Energy for building something new while the playbook is still being written
- Ability to work from the London office 3 days per week as part of Harvey's hybrid work model
- Legal authorization to work in the country where the role is located
