About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead application engineering for a new Azure cloud platform supporting a multi-year modernization program
- Architect and code new solutions while modernizing legacy applications
- Set technical direction and establish reusable engineering patterns
- Own target-state architecture for a unified platform replacing separate client-facing and internal portals
- Define the canonical work model and composable module architecture
- Design and enforce multi-tenant isolation across documents, search, exports, background jobs, and integrations
- Establish API and integration patterns for third-party platforms
- Build versioned contracts and anti-corruption adapters
- Implement idempotent write-back, reconciliation, drift detection, circuit breakers, cached reads, and graceful degradation
- Modernize older .NET Framework, WCF, and SQL workloads
- Build cloud-native applications on Azure PaaS, including data and analytics platform application and business-logic layers
- Select languages and frameworks and guide team adoption
- Own application delivery through CI/CD and partner with the Staff Azure Cloud Engineer
- Lead application data design and legacy data migration
- Lead application security design and support SOC 2 controls
- Set standards for coding, testing, quality gates, code review, observability, and incident response
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through design decisions, code reviews, mentoring, and architecture decision records
- Partner with the Azure Cloud Engineer and IT, security, and network teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years building and operating production applications and services
- Experience owning architecture and leading cross-functional delivery
- Experience architecting multi-tenant applications for internal staff and external customers
- Experience with customer and workforce identity, fine-grained authorization, and row-level security
- Experience building orchestration layers over third-party systems of record
- Experience with API facades, backend-for-frontend, anti-corruption layers, canonical domain models, versioned contracts, event-driven synchronization, idempotent write-back, and resilience patterns
- Deep expertise in at least one modern cloud language; C#/.NET is the largest footprint
- Production fluency in Java, Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript
- Experience modernizing monolithic, on-premises, or legacy applications to cloud-native patterns
- Hands-on Azure PaaS application development with App Service or Container Apps, managed identity, Key Vault, and Service Bus or equivalent messaging
- Full-stack capability with modern TypeScript UI, shared design systems, and plugin or micro-frontend models
- Strong relational data modeling and migration experience
- Leadership in secure application development, including authentication, authorization, input validation, encryption, secrets management, OWASP practices, and SOC 2 controls
- Experience delivering through CI/CD using GitHub Actions, GitHub Enterprise, or equivalent tools
- Experience with pull requests, automated testing, and quality and security gates
- Demonstrated technical leadership without formal authority
- Preferred: plugin-based platform architectures, policy engines, data-dense interfaces, professional-services/tax/accounting integrations, build-versus-buy judgment, incremental modernization patterns, audit-cycle experience, relevant industry experience, and Microsoft AZ-204/AZ-305 or other relevant certifications
