About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Serve as a key strategic partner to Procurement, Finance, Customer Experience, and Communications teams
Own third-party and vendor contracting
Build and lead agentic first-pass contract review
Serve as DRI on contract escalations and exceptions
Own a subset of disputes and escalated requests, including patient cost disputes, escalated provider matters, administrative/regulatory inquiries, and document and records requests
Partner with Customer Experience and Communications to resolve escalated matters
Own Headway’s annual corporate insurance cycle and ongoing insurance administration
Handle other corporate and risk matters in a fast-growing startup environment
Report to the Associate General Counsel, Commercial and Corporate

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of legal experience, including at least 2 years in-house
Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth start-up environment; healthcare preferred
Hands-on ownership of complex processes such as commercial contracting at scale
Judgment to balance risk and trade-offs with fidelity and velocity
Strong emotional intelligence and ability to build relationships and consensus amid competing priorities
Genuine interest in working with AI tooling and improving or reinventing systems
Ability to translate complex topics into clear, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders
J.D. from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in good standing
Ability to register as NY in-house counsel required
Authorization to work in the United States for any employer
No current or future visa sponsorship requirement
