About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a portfolio of products and innovation-need areas
  • Manage products and initiatives with direct or indirect colleague involvement
  • Deliver tailored support packages to industry and innovators, including one-to-one and one-to-many offerings
  • Contribute to bids, grant applications, contracts and income-generation activities
  • Develop new service offerings and cultivate existing and new customer demand
  • Build partnerships between NHS and commercial-sector organisations to accelerate innovation adoption
  • Support innovators in accessing health and social care, commercialisation, market access and real-world validation
  • Help innovators grow, create jobs and leverage private and public funding
  • Review and triage companies for Health Innovation KSS and national support
  • Design, plan and implement programmes addressing jobs, investment and export outcomes
  • Provide ongoing support for companies navigating health and social care
  • Share case studies, lessons learned and successful innovation implementations
  • Work with subcontractors and maintain innovator signposting resources
  • Produce monthly informal and quarterly formal reports
  • Horizon-scan for innovations suitable for adoption, spread or co-design
  • Prepare and deliver reports, seminars, workshops, briefings and presentations
  • Interpret national policy and advise innovators on product development and market access
  • Represent Health Innovation KSS at meetings with Health Innovation Networks and other stakeholders
  • Support implementation of Office for Life Sciences and NHS England objectives
  • Work with stakeholders across industry, NHS and social care, business-support organisations, commercial funding bodies and academia
  • Travel to satellite offices across Kent, Surrey and Sussex as required
  • Report to the Head of Portfolio – Innovation & Enterprise and support the Director of Innovation & Enterprise

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Educated to degree standard or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Project or portfolio management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Experience of supporting industry within a company or through business support and accelerators, with emphasis on business growth
  • Significant recent management experience in the NHS, industry/supporting innovators, or another relevant-sector organisation
  • Evidence of effective partnership working
  • Proven experience managing a range of projects or companies concurrently
  • Experience managing resources to support project/programme delivery
  • Financial and performance management experience
  • Experience working with staff at all levels
  • Knowledge of the health and/or social care sectors
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Ability to analyse and synthesise complex information
  • Ability to contribute to the income-generation pipeline through innovation programmes
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Advanced IT skills, including collaborative working tools and Microsoft Office
  • Facilitation skills to direct and support teams toward measurable outcomes
  • Reliable work record
  • Ability to travel within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex patch
  • Desirable: experience supporting or working within a health-tech company/innovation landscape
