About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Carry out the mission and vision of the New York State Department of Health
  • Lead and coordinate initiatives aimed at strengthening partnerships across New York State
  • Engage in outreach strategies for the Community Engagement and Outreach Unit
  • Coordinate initiatives and activities for the Office of Public Health, Regional Offices, and Local Health Departments
  • Partner with community-based organizations, workforce development institutions, rural health organizations, faith-based organizations, local governmental agencies, local businesses, and community networks
  • Ensure programs and funding opportunities reach communities across New York State
  • Apply community engagement best practices in communications, community capacity building, contract management support, and program development
  • Develop new partnerships and improve existing partnerships
  • Communicate and provide guidance on New York State Department of Health emergency preparedness mandates and information
  • Comply with grant funding requirements, time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree in a related field and five years of relevant experience; OR seven years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience in a health, human service or community-based organization, including community development or economic development activities, community organizing and mobilization services, urban planning activities, or closely related experience
  • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience
  • At least five years of community engagement or related experience preferred
  • At least three years of project oversight and contributing to the growth of community programs preferred
  • At least two years of experience managing multiple projects simultaneously preferred
  • Experience managing contracts or service agreements, including bids, budgets, work plans, and expenditure tracking preferred
  • Knowledge of community engagement and/or outreach initiatives preferred
  • Awareness and understanding of public health issues, emergency preparedness, health literacy and health equity preferred
  • Experience developing or conducting workshops and providing trainings for people of diverse backgrounds preferred
  • Experience supporting programs or initiatives designed to improve public health outcomes and access to services preferred
  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required; visa sponsorship is not available
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts before hire
  • Travel up to 25% of the time is required
