About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide nursing care and support for a young client in their home, during community appointments, and at school
  • Assist with washing, braces and splints, dressing, and continence products
  • Manage tracheostomy, including changing trache ties
  • Support medication management, suctioning, and cough assist
  • Hoist the client into a wheelchair and assist with safe transfers into the van, bed, chair, and other locations
  • Manage airway and respiratory monitoring of a portable ventilator
  • Check and restock suction bags and emergency bags
  • Drive to school and support the client throughout the school day
  • Perform personal care with assistance from the support worker and provide passive exercises
  • Set up iPad, books, and games; tidy the room; check supplies; and keep the client positively engaged
  • Work alongside a support worker to assist with daily routines and healthcare needs
  • Apply a holistic, person-centered approach while supporting participation in home and community life

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current registration and NZNC practicing certificate
  • Valid Annual Practising Certificate
  • Right to work legally in New Zealand
  • Full Drivers License
  • Experience working in the community is an advantage, but not essential
  • Ability to work autonomously with a strong solution-focused approach to challenges
  • High levels of attention to detail
  • Strong and positive communication skills
  • Ability to work in a complex and changing environment
  • Critical thinking
  • Competence in nursing, with ability to learn skills related to medication management, enteral feeding, falls and pressure injury prevention, and wound care
  • Ability to manage own tax obligations, ACC levies, and invoicing requirements
  • Compassionate, reliable, and solution-focused approach
