About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Cover North Texas' food scene and cultural events
- Report breaking news, viral trends, in-depth features, data-driven enterprise stories, and listicles
- Cover dining, food business, current affairs and politics affecting the culinary world, and local events and activities
- Write quickly and accurately on local food and events topics
- Use social media to develop story ideas and respond to audience interests
- Build stories using links, tags, SEO best practices, attractive web headlines, and multimedia when appropriate
- Work with editors to develop coverage that resonates with digital audiences
- Assist with video and audio journalism as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Good news judgment, accuracy, speed, grammatical precision, headline writing flair, energy, curiosity, and ability to provide impactful local digital news coverage
- Proficiency in digital content management tools
- Social media newsgathering and audience development experience
- Demonstrated ability to work remotely via smartphone or laptop computer
- Understanding of platforms and audiences, including platform-appropriate voice, style, formatting, and hyperlinks
- Deep knowledge of SEO techniques and digital best practices
- Experience using newsroom tools for planning, authoring, and communication
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and across newsroom teams
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and produce stories quickly and accurately
- Knowledge of digital news analytics
- Valid driver's license and registered vehicle for travel to assignments
