About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report on breaking news, daily news, utility journalism, and service journalism in and around North Texas
- Write quickly and accurately on a variety of local news topics
- Use social media to develop story ideas and respond to audience discussions
- Build stories with links, tags, SEO best practices, web headlines, and multimedia
- Work with editors to develop coverage for the digital audience
- Assist with video and audio journalism as needed
- Help shape coverage of critical local issues, breaking news, and viral trends
Requirements
What you’ll need- Good news judgment, accuracy, speed, grammatical precision, headline writing ability, energy, curiosity, and ability to provide impactful local news coverage
- Proficiency in digital content management tools
- Experience using social media for newsgathering and audience development
- Demonstrated ability to work remotely via smartphone or laptop computer
- Understanding of platforms and audiences, including platform-appropriate voice, style, formatting, and hyperlinks
- Deep knowledge of SEO techniques and other digital best practices
- Experience using newsroom tools for planning, authoring, and communicating
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and across newsroom teams
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment while producing stories quickly and accurately
- Knowledge of digital news analytics
- Valid driver's license and registered vehicle to travel to assignments
