About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead Heartland’s Training and Development Center for operations and the distribution center
- Oversee New Employee Orientation, annual compliance training, certifications, professional development, and equipment/process-specific training materials and SOPs
- Develop and deploy a new technical training program for manufacturing operations
- Partner with leadership across departments to determine the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for each role
- Design and lead a multifaceted training and development program focused on technical skills and execution in operations
- Ensure training materials reflect current operating processes and procedures, including operator and skilled-trades training and certifications
- Set the strategic vision for the technical training area
- Establish a GMP-compliant training area and install equipment in compliance with plant food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Select training methods appropriate to the purpose and audience, including online, video-enhanced, virtual reality, role playing, mentoring, on-the-job training, and professional development classes
- Market and promote training opportunities and communicate career-path benefits
- Conduct organization-wide needs assessments to identify skills and knowledge gaps
- Assist in developing job descriptions and career paths for hourly and technical professional positions
- Ensure compliance with legal standards and regulatory processes for technical and procedural education delivery and materials
- Report to the VP of Operations, Quality and Supply Chain, with dotted-line reporting to the Senior Director of Operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical field
- 5 or more years of relevant experience in a manufacturing setting
- Consumer packaged goods (CPG), pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience leading a team
- Successfully implemented adult learning programs in a manufacturing environment, including machine operator, trades, quality, and supervisor training programs
- Entrepreneurial spirit with ability to work independently and with all levels of the organization in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Organized with attention to detail
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience using Learning Management Systems such as Cornerstone
- Ability to physically perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Ability to work seated using a computer and phone for long periods
- Ability to work extended hours, including daily overtime and occasional weekends
- Visual acuity to document company records
- Continuous walking throughout the plant and distribution center
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
