About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of discipline-aligned engineers and designers
  • Develop and execute design projects while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
  • Act as hiring manager and career coach, conducting interviews and providing performance feedback and career guidance
  • Participate in project scheduling meetings and monitor progress against project objectives
  • Manage project staff resources and discipline budgets cross-functionally
  • Improve project and design quality through quality reviews and regular check-ins
  • Apply and teach Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, policies and procedures
  • Oversee project coordination, including scope, schedule, design team coordination, client meetings, quality and project delivery
  • Direct and oversee preparation of design documents, system layouts, drawings, schematics and specifications
  • Lead project and design efforts from concept design through completion
  • Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications
  • Research system and equipment feasibility and recommend products
  • Solve complex engineering and design challenges
  • Ensure drawings, specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements
  • Communicate with clients and architects regarding requirements and scope
  • Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
  • Resolve conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors
  • Identify and share emerging technologies, industry trends, codes and standards
  • Perform responsibilities associated with carrying a PE license and/or serving as Engineer of Record

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of engineering preferred
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant progressive experience required
  • Professional Engineering license preferred
  • Additional certifications aligning with the relevant technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD, etc.) preferred
  • Performance as an Engineer of Record (EOR) preferred
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards relating to a broad range of practices, projects and/or program types required
  • Working knowledge of earned value, contracts and construction processes and methods required
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam Revu required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software applicable to your discipline or focus
  • Demonstrated history of building trust-based relationships within teams and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to lead with empathy and clarity, navigate performance conversations constructively and support team members through challenge and change
  • Demonstrated interest in growing others through regular feedback, career guidance and skills-based mentoring
  • High technical aptitude and ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function in a highly collaborative environment and lead less experienced designers
  • Ability to prioritize, execute and/or direct multiple tasks in a dynamic environment

  • Salary range of $132,000 - $198,000 for Denver, subject to geographic cost of labor differentials
