About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient- and family-centered care in inpatient and outpatient environments
- Perform non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures under physician order or supervision
- Record short cardiopulmonary histories relevant to testing and procedures
- Maintain departmental statistical and individual productivity records
- Act as part of cardiac fast teams for inpatient units
- Edit ECG and stress testing reports according to policy
- Interact with patients and physicians regarding receipt, review, scanning, and reporting of event recorders
- Promote patient safety and follow departmental, hospital, and Human Resources policies and procedures
- Use time, supplies, and equipment productively and document patient charges accurately
- Chart initial and daily assessment data in participant records
- Assess pre-, during-, and post-exercise responses and make referrals or recommendations
- Participate in quality improvement, data gathering, change processes, and outcome reporting
- Participate in participant assessment, orientation, individualized care planning, and multidisciplinary treatment strategies
- Support patient satisfaction, health behavior change, risk-factor modification, and therapeutic lifestyle changes
- Supervise exercise sessions and monitor participants for inappropriate responses
- Report new, changing, or significant conditions immediately
- Participate in professional development, mandatory education, department initiatives, and knowledge sharing
- Provide excellent guest relations, holistic care, a professional patient environment, and flexible support for staffing needs and assigned shifts
- Practice AIDET and maintain interdepartmental relationships
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or Exercise Science
- Minimum of one year of cardiology experience preferred if degree is in a health-related field
- Area-specific required education may be obtained upon hire and must be maintained, e.g., ACLS, BLS
- Licensure preferred: ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C)
- Licensure preferred: ASEP Board Certified Exercise Physiologist (EPC)
- Ability to perform non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures after training and competency evaluation, including ECG, rhythm strip, heart monitor hook-up, treadmill stress test, nuclear stress test, stress ECHO tests, and DOB echo and nuclear test
- Ability to assess patients before, during, and after exercise and make appropriate referrals or recommendations
- Ability to apply exercise science knowledge to cardiovascular and pulmonary disease populations
- Ability to develop and adjust individualized exercise prescriptions
- Ability to follow hospital, departmental, Human Resources, safety, fire, hazardous waste disposal, and emergency response policies and plans
