About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and integrate custom tooling, automation, and robotic equipment in a medical device manufacturing environment
Develop manual, semi-automated, and fully automated systems through the full cycle from concept through installation
Collaborate with R&D, Process Development, and Manufacturing Engineering to develop initial automation concepts
Create equipment designs, including component selection and sourcing
Coordinate formal and informal design reviews
Purchase and assemble systems with mechanical, electrical, controls, and safety components
Test and debug systems for implementation into development or production processes
Report and communicate technical progress against milestones
Prepare accurate, detailed equipment documentation aligned with approved processes
Troubleshoot difficult technical problems across varied equipment
Support improvement efforts with a continuous improvement mindset
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field such as Electrical, Controls, Computer Science, Mechatronic, Automation, or related technical field strongly preferred; equivalent relevant education, training, and experience may be considered
Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably focused on development of custom automation solutions
Strong general understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automated systems
Strong CAD modeling/design experience; SolidWorks preferred
Ability to follow a disciplined and detailed approach to project management and design processes
Ability to manage multiple parallel projects with varying scopes and deadlines
Ability to draw on and adapt prior knowledge and experience to initiate effective solutions
Strong collaborative communication and leadership skills, with ability to lead independently while working collaboratively
Adaptive to change and willing to support a variety of work assignments
Knowledge of specific brands and technologies is a plus, including Keyence, SMC, Turck, Banner, Horner, Beckhoff, Delta Tau, Omron, EtherCAT, Ethernet, RS232, Visual Studio, Visio, C++, HTML, Epson, Universal, and Mecademic
