About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the Hercules platform-as-a-service
- Build the Hercules Database: an enterprise-grade, database-like object model with flexible schemas and fine-grained access controls
- Develop a fast, scalable backend-as-a-service integrated with the Hercules Database
- Design APIs and SDKs used by AI agents to build on the platform
- Engineer for low latency, high throughput, and efficient resource use
- Build and operate reliable infrastructure for customer applications
- Ensure strong tenant isolation, observability, and failure resilience
- Work with Hercules technologies, clouds, and AI models including TypeScript, React, Postgres, Redis, ClickHouse, Docker, AWS, Cloudflare, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models
Requirements
What you’ll need- Staff-level platform engineering experience
- Strong software fundamentals in system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code and work effectively in monorepos
- Rust experience building efficient, reliable production systems
- Knowledge of data systems, including indexing, query performance, transactions, and consistency
- Experience scaling large, data-intensive, multi-tenant, distributed services
- Ability to optimize latency, throughput, and resource efficiency
- Ability to use AI coding tools to significantly accelerate development
- Willingness to work in US time zones if remote
- Willingness to travel to the San Francisco office regularly if remote
