About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own revenue accounting end to end, from contract execution through billing, recognition, deferred revenue, contract costs, and reporting
  • Design the revenue operating model, including processes, close calendar, roles, hand-offs, and documentation
  • Draft and maintain revenue recognition policies, position papers, and desk procedures
  • Serve as revenue subject matter expert for auditors, diligence teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Run monthly ASC 606 revenue recognition for SaaS, usage-based, and professional services arrangements
  • Maintain stand-alone selling price analysis, performance obligation allocation, and deferred revenue schedules
  • Manage ASC 340-40 deferred contract cost accounting and reconciliations
  • Research and write technical accounting memos and review conclusions with external auditors
  • Lead the revenue workstream of month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis, and sign-off
  • Manage billing-to-revenue processes and resolve discrepancies
  • Partner with the Controller on order-to-cash performance and cross-training
  • Lead revenue platform evaluation and implementation, including requirements, configuration, migration, parallel runs, UAT, and go-live
  • Define CRM/CPQ, billing, and NetSuite integration requirements
  • Own Avalara sales tax configuration and compliance
  • Track the revenue automation roadmap and performance measures
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, FP&A, Product, and Customer Success on contracts, products, pricing, and revenue implications
  • Lead the annual audit revenue workstream and support SOX readiness
  • Deliver year-one milestones: document processes within 90 days, select and implement a revenue platform within 6 months, and have the platform live within 12 months

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years of revenue accounting at a SaaS or technology company
  • Demonstrated ownership of ASC 606 in a growth-stage company, including writing and defending technical positions with external auditors
  • Working command of ASC 340-40 contract cost accounting
  • Track record of building process from an unstructured starting point
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite
  • Experience selecting or leading the implementation of a revenue recognition or billing platform
  • Strong command of GAAP, internal control design, and enterprise contract review across multi-element revenue arrangements
  • Ability to operate independently, manage a build agenda alongside a monthly close, and communicate clearly with executive leadership and external auditors
  • Equal comfort writing an ASC 606 memo, running a vendor scorecard, and explaining contract revenue issues to Sales leadership
  • Interest in automation and systems, with upstream revenue planning before product launches
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies
  • Preferred: experience with subscription or usage-based billing platforms such as Zuora or Maxio
  • Preferred: experience with revenue recognition automation tools such as Zuora Revenue or Salesforce Revenue Cloud
  • Preferred: NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management experience
  • Preferred: public accounting experience
  • Preferred: familiarity with Salesforce or comparable CRM/CPQ environments and Looker
  • Preferred: insurtech, insurance, or financial services experience
  • Preferred: experience managing a small accounting team or supporting SOX readiness, an IPO, or investor diligence
