Medical Assistant – Outpatient Cardiology Clinic

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist in coordinating examination, treatment, and health care planning for patients under provider direction
- Prepare and room patients according to standardized workflows
- Obtain and document vital signs, patient information, histories, tobacco and medication screenings
- Complete annual wellness visit screenings and update medication and social history in the EHR
- Pend orders for screenings, prescriptions, refills, and other orders under approved protocols
- Perform back-office testing, lab controls, and equipment checks
- Assist providers with examinations and procedures
- Serve as a scribe with additional training when needed
- Follow up with patients and notify them of test results under provider direction
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain medical supply inventory
- Clean and sterilize instruments
- Administer and document medications safely
- Maintain accurate electronic health records
- Perform clerical office functions and other assigned duties
- Travel or float between physician office locations as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School / GED or completion of a Medical Assistant Program
- Employees who graduated from a medical assistant program within five years or have proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and obtain certification within 120 days of hire
- Accepted Medical Assistant Certification: NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or AMCA
- Employees who have not met the certification criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company-proctored certification exam when qualified
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Ability to travel or float between physician office locations as required
