About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build scalable software applications across all digital channels
  • Take an enterprise-wide architectural view of solutions and execute products using an appropriate technical stack
  • Participate in the full software application build process, from idea generation and business analysis through technical design and software development
  • Analyze, design, code, test, and implement complex application enhancements
  • Provide production support while meeting scope, target dates, and budgets with minimal or no defects
  • Participate in the full system development life cycle according to Highmark SDLC standards
  • Collaborate with customers, business analysts, partners, and IT team members to understand business requirements and design technical solutions
  • Provide technical support, including release implementations, on-call support, and 24x7 support when necessary
  • Participate in project teams as Developer, Technical Lead, or Project Manager, depending on experience
  • Communicate with team members, customers, partners, and management
  • Conduct or assist with technical walkthroughs, report project status, enable vendor solutions, and produce accurate documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related field
  • 5 years of experience as a developer
  • 5+ years of proficiency in scalable system design, including algorithms, data structures, and design patterns
  • 5+ years of experience with modern programming languages such as .NET, Angular, SQL, Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript
  • Strong understanding of web services including REST, HTTPS, and JSON
  • 5+ years of experience defining system architectures
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Experience with databases
  • Experience with multiple coding languages
  • Experience in healthcare or health insurance industry
  • Experience with technology platforms, application development tools, business processes, and software development life cycle used by Highmark enterprise
  • Must comply with HIPAA, data security guidelines, company policies, applicable laws, and training requirements
  • Preferred: 7+ years working with technology systems, designing solutions, or developing applications in healthcare
  • Preferred: 5+ years with HTML5, CSS, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services, MSSQL, and Windows Server
  • Preferred: 5+ years translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into working applications
  • Preferred: 5+ years producing fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code
  • Preferred: 1+ year working with Machine Learning, especially Natural Language Understanding, Machine Translation, or Deep Neural Networks
  • Required licenses or certifications: None
  • Other language besides English: None
