About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Curate, write and edit content for public distribution related to shipbuilding, national security and the HII mission
  • Support development of digital content for external, internal and social platforms
  • Maintain content across HII external and internal media channels, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and alignment with enterprise strategies
  • Develop creative, compelling content highlighting HII’s people, programs, and innovations
  • Support crisis communication planning and response efforts
  • Develop communication and security plans for media visits and support on-site media engagements
  • Collaborate daily with teammates across the enterprise, including occasional travel to major milestone events and trade shows
  • Strengthen understanding of HII’s mission, workforce, and industry to foster positive relationships with media, stakeholders, and the public
  • Support enterprise reputation, program capture efforts, and strategic business initiatives
  • Provide communications support for major ship milestones
  • Help attract top talent by communicating the scale, purpose and opportunity of the HII mission

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline (or the equivalent in education, training and experience) plus 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; OR Master's degree and 4 years relevant experience
  • US citizenship required
  • Experience in the defense and aeronautical industry
  • Media relations and issues management
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills
  • AP Style proficiency
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage 24-hour news cycle
