About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
  • Utilize computer-aided design equipment and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM or CATIA
  • Gather information, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals
  • Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups
  • Perform electrical design and develop drawings for ship modifications and overhauls
  • Follow applicable drawing procedures and standards
  • Locate, interpret, and apply government- and vendor-furnished information and technical data in functional electrical design drawings
  • Travel to Naval Bases to support pier-side shipchecking and surveys

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience, or an associate degree or other 2 year technical degree in a related discipline and 1 year experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Experience or knowledge applicable to electrical design and development of drawings
  • Ability to follow applicable drawing procedures and standards
  • Ability to locate, interpret and apply government- and vendor-furnished information and technical data
  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy Power, Lighting, Interior Communication, and Control Systems preferred
  • Understanding of ship design and blueprint reading preferred
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to travel 25%-50% of the time
