About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
  • Use computer-aided design equipment and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, or CATIA
  • Gather information, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches for design proposals
  • Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups
  • Prepare design drawings supporting upgrades and modifications to shipboard electrical systems
  • Validate shipboard conditions and develop plans and sketches for new installations and upgrades on existing Navy ships
  • Convert sketches and mark-ups into AutoCAD drawings as required
  • Support Planning Yard operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience, or Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Arrangements and Cableways drawings on US Navy Surface Combatants preferred
  • Overall computer literacy skills
  • Ability to interface with other disciplines during the drawing development process
  • Ability to ship check and provide detailed mark-ups to support drawing development
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft products
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimum supervision during ship checks and in an off-site office
  • Ability to obtain secret clearance required
  • Shipboard experience with LCS, LPD, LHD, and LHA ships is a plus
