About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Apply electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems
- Assemble, analyze and document results
- Construct developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components
- Perform quality testing
- Support and participate in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems
- Maintain the design of complex mechanical and electrical machinery within U.S. Navy aircraft carrier propulsion plants
- Support aircraft carrier new construction, testing, delivery, in-service maintenance and fleet operations
- Define procurement design objectives, specifications and requirements
- Oversee suppliers to ensure products meet objectives and requirements
- Ensure delivery of technically compliant products supporting ship construction and test schedules
- Support shipyard and Navy personnel operating propulsion plants
- Liaise between shipyard/Navy activities and machinery manufacturers
- Assist with ship construction and repair
- Provide advanced troubleshooting guidance
- Identify beneficial design improvements and maintenance practices
- Collaborate with Navy customers, supply partners, shipyard trades, engineers, project managers and business professionals
- Teach and mentor junior engineers through formal and informal training
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; OR Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; OR Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program required
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, preferably the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program
- Experience interfacing with NAVSEA, prime contractors, equipment suppliers, shipyard trades and engineering
- Experience with end-user support and troubleshooting
- Experience working with suppliers on product development and improvement
- Conceptual design knowledge of propulsion plant components
- Basic engineering project management skills
- Experience leading a technical project team of two to four junior engineers
- Ability to apply engineering and critical thinking principles to develop technical solutions for moderate to complex problems
- Strong technical writing, verbal and written communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Engineers from ABET-accredited disciplines are encouraged to apply
