About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support electrical system/component or electromechanical component groups within the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard
  • Support development of new aircraft carriers
  • Support modernization of the existing aircraft carrier fleet
  • Support design of a new battleship class
  • Support standard valve designs used throughout the Navy
  • Research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
  • Design electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes
  • Responsible for system and/or component designs
  • Report on area of cognizance to NNS management and customers
  • Interact with vendors
  • Train and help manage junior-level engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Conceptual design knowledge of common electrical/electronic components
  • Ability to proactively identify and apply electrical and electronic engineering principles to resolve technical design issues
  • Ability to read, analyze, and design electrical schematics and wiring charts
  • Familiarity with software to generate physics-based models of electrical circuits and control systems
  • Ability to train and help manage the work of junior level engineers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to report to all levels of NNS management and directly to customers
  • No security clearance required to start
