About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical products and systems, including instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and machines
  • Own A1B propulsion plant valve/component designs
  • Support design, qualification, procurement, shipboard installation, and testing of propulsion plant valves/components
  • Provide maintenance instructions and fleet support for propulsion plant valves/components
  • Develop technically correct, specification-compliant, cost-effective solutions to complex component and shipboard issues
  • Report areas of cognizance to NNS management and customers
  • Interact with vendors
  • Assist engineers with technically correct and timely work
  • Assist with reporting, tracking, and maintaining work status

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 9 years of relevant exempt experience with a bachelor's degree, or 7 years of relevant professional experience with a master's degree, or 4 years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to report to all levels of NNS management, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to assist engineers and track and maintain work status
  • Adaptability to emergent issues
  • Good organizational skills
  • Willingness to modify existing valves/components using additive manufacturing or other advanced manufacturing processes is desired
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
