About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Synthesize customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions within technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Develop and direct comprehensive test plans, procedures, and schedules for completing systems
- Coordinate integrated testing activities
- Review and evaluate test requirements for completeness of the test program
- Perform technical analysis of complete systems and prepare system-level evaluations
- Conduct integrated mechanical systems testing on Virginia Class Submarines
- Perform system activation, lineup verification, operational checks, and performance validation
- Diagnose system-level issues across pumps, valves, actuators, hydraulic components, seawater systems, chilled water systems, and auxiliary machinery
- Analyze pressure, flow, vibration, noise, and equipment response data
- Identify abnormal system behavior, isolate discrepancies, validate system interfaces, and confirm correct operation
- Maintain configuration control during test evolutions
- Document test results and deficiencies
- Coordinate troubleshooting with Engineering, Production, Planning, and technical vendors
- Communicate with Navy test personnel and waterfront teams via email, phone, and in-person meetings
- Use Microsoft Office, Teamcenter, engineering databases, and Test Engineering documentation systems for testing, discrepancy tracking, and certification readiness
Requirements
What you’ll need- U.S. Citizenship required
- ABET Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; OR Master’s Degree and 0 years of relevant professional experience; OR Professional Development Program (PDP) NNS Apprentice Certificate
- Knowledge of shipboard seawater, freshwater, drainage, or general service piping systems
- Understanding of NAVSEA standards for cleanliness, inspection, testing, and material controls
- Familiarity with pumps, valves, heat exchangers, strainers, and pressure regulators
- Understanding of integrated test program structure, test event lifecycle, and system readiness criteria
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in pressure tests, flushing operations, leak checks, and component functional verification
- Competency reading P&IDs, piping schematics, and mechanical drawings
- Technical documentation skills, including test logs, discrepancy reports, and retest planning
- Ability to lead small test or troubleshooting teams
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision
- Compliance with safety requirements, WAF processes, and configuration control
- Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and in industrial areas
- Ability to support high-tempo operations associated with test milestones and Sea Trials
- Prior experience testing or maintaining mechanical, seawater, potable water, or drainage systems
- Experience supporting shipboard or industrial test events
- Experience coordinating with Engineering, Production, Planning, and vendors
- Experience documenting technical results under a formal test program
- Experience supporting readiness reviews, turnover events, or at-sea testing is highly valued
