About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a group of engineers responsible for reactor plant structures and shielding
  • Support operational readiness of the aircraft carrier fleet and delivery of new construction ships
  • Adjudicate urgent requests for engineering support
  • Manage engineers performing dynamic structural shock analyses using finite element analysis methods
  • Oversee hand calculations using textbook methods
  • Develop and approve engineering calculation reports
  • Support development of Ship Alterations, Nuclear Liaison Inquiries, and submittal letters to Naval Reactors and the Naval Nuclear Laboratory
  • Collaborate with the Design Disclosure organization to check product model and drawing products
  • Ensure technical requirements are accurately conveyed to customers
  • Ensure deliverables meet specification and technical requirements and established schedules
  • Foster employee development and collaboration between design and engineering

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Extensive technical leadership and project management experience preferred
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities related to construction and fleet support for Navy vessels preferred
  • Experience interfacing with US Government customers, the NNS shipbuilder, and public Naval Shipyards
  • Experience with structural design and maintenance of US Navy ships preferred
  • Experience with shock and vibration analysis of equipment foundations on US Navy ships preferred
  • Strong understanding of structural dynamics and stress analysis processes using finite element and textbook methods
  • Knowledge of the Dynamic Design Analysis Method and Ford and Nimitz Class ship specifications is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with upstream and downstream customers
  • Ability to actively lead a culturally transformative effort within the area of responsibility
