About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical support to engineers on varied technical tasks
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data
- Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics
- Perform mathematical calculations and preliminary data analyses using established formulas and guidelines
- Conduct tests and record data to support engineering evaluations or analyses
- Support annual Control Inspections with in-field support
- Manage backlogs by monitoring SAP inputs, directing work, and closing projects
- Direct consultant and contractor assignments to maintain shipyard facilities safely
- Provide field support for trades and contractors
- Support docking evolutions with onsite technical support
- Coordinate and execute annual flood drills meeting Mil-STD-1625 requirements
- Mentor younger technicians within the O41 Plant Engineering organization
- Create technical direction and support onsite trades and contractors during facility maintenance and repair
- Provide technical rigor to facility systems including railways, transporters, tugboats, barges, and piers
- Perform technical evaluations and infrastructure assessments
- Respond to emergent safety-related issues in a fast-paced industrial facility
- Support engineers, planners, and contractors in repairing graving docks, critical equipment, and the floating dry dock
- Support repairs and quality assurance verifications for critical equipment
- Coordinate, plan, and execute repairs, modifications, and upgrades with contractors and trades
- Assess mechanical, hydraulic, and structural deficiencies and plan repairs with cognizant engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
- NNS Apprentice School graduate, Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate, or qualifying experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree
- Alternatively, High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience
- Alternatively, High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong working relationships with NNS production, engineering, safety, maintenance, and contractors
- Shipyard/Nuclear facilities experience preferred
- Hands-on experience with controls, electrical, mechanical, machining, fabrication, or relevant trade preferred
