About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support Electrical, Mechanical, and Structural engineering disciplines
- Assist in the design, construction, and maintenance of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines
- Translate engineering requirements into executable technical documentation and production support solutions
- Interface daily with engineering, planning, quality, and deckplate operations to support safe, compliant, high-quality ship construction and overhaul
- Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate laboratory, material test, and engineering design-change data
- Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics
- Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas
- Conduct preliminary data analyses and make quantitative judgments concerning technical data
- Use personal computers for analyses and development of documentation and reports
- Conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis
- Support submarine and aircraft-carrier design, construction, and overhaul programs, including Virginia-, Columbia-, SSNX-, AUKUS-, and BBGN-related work
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent qualification: NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Equivalent qualification: Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- Equivalent qualification: High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
- Equivalent qualification: High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to wear required PPE and comply with shipyard safety procedures in industrial areas
- Experience in naval or marine ship design, particularly with Navy or DoD programs (nice to have)
- Expertise in structural, piping, electrical, arrangements, HVAC, or mechanical systems (nice to have)
- Working knowledge of NAVSEA, MIL-SPEC, ANSI, and ASME standards (nice to have)
- Experience with PLM systems and configuration control tools (nice to have)
- Strong computer skills and experience using computer-based software (nice to have)
- Experience reading and interpreting written instructions, drawings, technical manuals, and other technical documents (nice to have)
- Ability to manage and track products in the area of responsibility, represent the team in meetings, and brief management with status updates when needed (nice to have)
