About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Learn to fabricate, assemble and install metal parts and structures used in ship construction
- Use torches, tape measures, hammers, levels and welding equipment
- Apply basic math, measurement and blueprint-reading skills
- Work in shipboard environments including heights, confined spaces and varying weather conditions
- Support production needs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment and be available for any shift
- Fabricate, assemble and install metal structures forming the backbone of naval vessels
- Transform raw steel and other materials into mission-ready ship components
Requirements
What you’ll need- U.S. Citizenship required
- Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints using metric and standard measurements
- Knowledge of the layout, fit-up and fabrication of steel plate and beam
- Experience with trade-specific tools including grinder, hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jack, chain fall and/or come-along, combination square, framing square, hand level and plumb bob
- Interest in learning a skilled trade and working with hands
- Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math
- Commitment to safety, quality and teamwork
- Willingness to work in active shipyard environments and learn through hands-on training
- Ability to work in heights, confined spaces and varying weather conditions
- Availability for any shift in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
- No prior shipfitting experience required
- Preferred: knowledge of setting and erecting units, Datum Lines, fit-up and alignment tolerances, and advanced blueprint reading
- Preferred: 3–5 years of marine, shipbuilding or construction experience
- Preferred: Tech Master Certification
- Preferred: High School Graduate or Equivalent
