About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify hazardous workplace conditions and take preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances
- Remove hazards or protect employees through guarding, revised work procedures, training, and required protective clothing/PPE
- Ensure workplace conditions comply with federal and state occupational safety and health standards and labor agreement provisions
- Prepare and maintain required safety records
- Participate in OSHA inspections and related citation procedures
- Investigate, prepare, and forward reports on injuries and fatalities
- Conduct safe work procedures training courses
- Provide fire prevention oversight and assessment for an assigned Area of Responsibility, including facilities, vessels, dry docks, piers, and supporting infrastructure
- Maintain routine field presence to assess hot work controls, combustible material management, housekeeping, and fire and life-safety compliance
- Document hazards and deficiencies and coordinate follow-up and resolution
- Participate in operational safety reviews, pre-job and worksite engagements, incident learning, causal-analysis activities, safety briefings, and formal fire safety inspections
- Perform facility fire safety assessments against applicable codes and standards after qualification
- Support fire event response, investigations, corrective-action development, and an on-call rotation
- Analyze field observations, inspection results, fire and near-miss events, operational conditions, and performance data
- Develop recurring reports and assessments communicating conditions, trends, deficiencies, corrective-action status, and fire safety performance
- Perform causal analysis and recommend corrective actions
- Communicate technically supported assessments and recommendations to Fire Safety management and operational leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience
- Equivalent pathways include NNS Apprentice School graduate, Navy Nuclear Power School graduate, Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program with 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience, Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience, or High School/GED with specified combined experience
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Experience with hot work operations, fire prevention, combustible material control, housekeeping, or industrial fire safety
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, assessments, field observations, or compliance surveillance
- Fire protection qualification or training such as Fire Inspector, Fire Plans Examiner, or CFPS
- OSHA certifications or formal occupational safety and health training
- Experience aboard naval or commercial vessels or in shipbuilding, ship repair, construction, manufacturing, or complex industrial environments
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, NFPA standards, fire/building codes, or applicable fire and life-safety requirements
- Experience with incident investigations, causal analysis, root-cause evaluations, or corrective-action development
- Experience analyzing safety, inspection, or operational data
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and similar tools
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to independently manage an assigned area, coordinate across organizations, and drive issues to resolution
- Ability to travel 10%-25% of the time
- No security clearance required to start
