About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Install, groom, test, and repair major mechanical components and systems on commercial or naval ships
- Work on ships in various stages of new construction, overhaul, or repair
- Work with components including steam turbines, reduction gears, propellers, reactor components, catapults, weapons systems, periscopes, laundry equipment, food service equipment, and refrigeration equipment
- Operate tools and machinery including wrenches, screwdrivers, saws, drill presses, optical equipment, mills, portable machines, boring equipment, precision grinders, and lathes
- Work assigned shifts according to production needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- U.S. citizenship required
- Experience in mechanical concepts, such as automotive repair, plant maintenance, or machinery installation/repair, or relevant tools or techniques
- Experience with HVAC systems or parts
- Ability to climb ladders and work at extreme heights
- Ability to work in small, tight, or confined spaces
- Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb daily
- Ability to lift heavy objects weighing 40 lbs. or more
- Ability to repeatedly reach overhead
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in areas with radiation
- Ability to take and pass a respirator fit test
- Ability to work assigned shifts as production needs
- Ability to take and pass a Physical Agility Test
- Five or more years of job-related experience and/or technical/vocational school training applies to the experienced machinist posting
- Successful completion of a technical/vocational program in machining, diesel technology, automotive, HVAC, or mechanical is a plus
