About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design major components or major portions of functional systems to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
  • Develop basic data, preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals
  • Investigate design factors including manufacturability, material and equipment availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specifications, and cost
  • Coordinate with organizations affected by design development
  • Create layouts of complex assemblies and details of devices, mechanisms, and structures
  • Check layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, standards, procedures, specifications, and calculation/dimensioning accuracy
  • Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies and recommend revisions or improvements
  • Lead and manage Marine/Pipe Engineering 3-D/2-D design
  • Direct coordinators and manage day-to-day activities and task progress
  • Ensure pipe design group tasking is completed successfully and design products are delivered on time and with quality
  • Maintain weekly status/progress reports for contracts
  • Manage administrative responsibilities for HII-Ingalls and developmental programs
  • Establish and manage budgets and schedules
  • Select, train, evaluate, counsel, and discipline personnel
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Interface with vendors and Navy technical representatives
  • Travel as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent
  • Combination of education and experience in lieu of degree: High school diploma and 14 years or Associate's Degree and 10 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design or equivalent
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Full knowledge of Pipe Diagrams
  • Knowledge of Detail Design Drawings
  • Knowledge of Ship Specifications related requirements
  • Knowledge of 3-D/2-D Ship Constructor, Navisworks and ARAS
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Pipe Details and associated DNC is preferred
  • Ability to travel 10%-25% of the time
