About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support piping system, valve design, or electromechanical component groups within the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard
- Support development of new aircraft carriers, modernization of the existing aircraft carrier fleet, design of a new battleship class, and standard valve designs used throughout the Navy
- Design, develop, and provide lifetime support for propulsion plants, including reactor plants, of Navy aircraft carriers and nuclear battleships
- Perform system and/or component designs as a senior-level engineer
- Research, plan, design, develop, and test mechanical and electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems
- Report on area of cognizance to NNS management and directly to the Navy customer
- Interface with construction and other engineering disciplines
- Work with designers to communicate engineering resolutions and approve changes to CAD models
- Train and help manage junior-level engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in using physics-based principles to perform calculations and analyses
- Ability to train and help manage the work of junior level engineers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervisor oversight
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Willingness/ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- No security clearance required to start
