About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform routine naval architecture work using standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Carry out design and analyses of ship hulls, foundations, superstructures, arrangements, and hull-form characteristics
  • Apply techniques and procedures to ship design and ship performance analyses
  • Assist in solving difficult problems within assigned areas
  • Perform specific portions of broader systems design, performance analysis, and hull-form characteristic assignments
  • Perform naval architecture calculations supporting submarine and aircraft carrier design, construction, and overhaul
  • Support waterfront evolutions including watertight integrity audits, dockings, undockings, inclinings, sea trials, and trim dives
  • Support development of the next generation of fast-attack submarines under the AUKUS SSNA Program
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the SSNA program and interface with UK BAE Systems integrated delivery teams
  • Engage shipyards, customers, and stakeholders to collect design feedback
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to incorporate SSNA design principles
  • Communicate with internal leadership and external customers
  • Perform hydrostatics calculations
  • Adapt work assignments and perform duties outside traditional discipline scope as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Naval Architecture or Ocean Engineering Degree from ABET accredited school (nice to have)
  • Experience with submarine hydrostatics (nice to have)
  • Experience with weight estimation and calculation (nice to have)
  • Strong technical background with comprehensive knowledge of submarine naval architecture (nice to have)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and briefs (nice to have)
  • Ability to coordinate with vendors and industry partners (nice to have)
  • Operational experience on commissioned or under-construction Navy vessels is a plus
  • Ability to travel 10%-25% of the time
  • No security clearance required to start
