About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Fabricate, cut, bend, form, and install sheetmetal components to exact specifications
  • Build and install ductwork, venting systems, exhaust systems, metal containers, instrumentation panels, and shipboard structures
  • Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, and other specifications using shop mathematics
  • Use brakes, shears, rollers, grinders, drills, layout tools, and measurement equipment
  • Verify measurements and maintain accuracy
  • Ensure all work meets Ingalls craftsmanship and safety standards
  • Work in shipyard environments involving heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
  • Support production across multiple shifts to meet ship construction schedules

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 1 year of sheetmetal experience or related craft experience in joiner, shipfitting, and/or carpentry
  • Proven experience in sheetmetal fabrication, layout, and installation
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Skill using metalforming tools and performing shop mathematics
  • Strong commitment to precision, safety, and teamwork
  • Willingness to work in an active industrial environment supporting ship construction
  • Willingness to work across multiple shifts
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
  • Preferred: ability to set up and operate sheetmetal machines such as brakes and shears
  • Preferred: ability to pass a skill assessment test
  • Preferred: ability to read marine blueprints and work from standard and metric specifications
