About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Cut, grind, bend and fit raw steel to create components of naval vessels
- Use tools and equipment to fabricate, assemble and erect metal components
- Perform shipfitting work at various stages of marine vessel construction
- Set and erect units using layout and fabrication techniques
- Work safely according to shipyard procedures and industry standards
- Work across production areas, heights, confined spaces and varying weather conditions
- Work day or night shifts based on shipbuilding schedules
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 1 year trade experience
- Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
- Knowledge of the layout, fit-up and fabrication of steel plate and beam
- Experience with trade-specific tools including grinder, hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jack, chain fall and/or come-a-long, combination square, framing square, hand level and plumb bob
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to work at different heights, in confined spaces, and under different weather conditions
- Ability to work multiple shifts, including day or night shifts
- Nice to have: 6 years marine, shipbuilding and construction experience
- Nice to have: Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
- Nice to have: Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blueprint reading skills
