About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair wood and metal components throughout the ship
- Install bulkheads, interior finishes, cabin accessories, furniture, racks, bins, decking structures, and decorative ceilings
- Lay out work from drawings, specifications, blueprints, and shop sketches
- Perform precise measurement, cutting, fastening, and finishing of materials
- Ensure proper mounting and alignment of outfitting items, including partitions, panels, and deck structures
- Work in shipboard environments that may include heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
- Support production needs across multiple shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing setting
- Follow Ingalls’ safety standards in all work areas
- Build functional spaces including crew quarters, command centers, passageways, and support areas
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 1 year experience as a Joiner or related craft experience in shipfitting, carpentry or sheetmetal
- Must be able to pass the Tacker Certification test
- Experience in joiner work, carpentry, metal fabrication, interior installation, or similar trades
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Skill in fabricating, installing, and finishing wood and metal components
- Strong commitment to detail, safety, and craftsmanship
- Willingness to work in an active industrial environment supporting ship construction
- High School diploma or equivalent (nice to have)
- Master Tech Certification (nice to have)
- U.S. Citizenship is not required for this position
