About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze, research and develop structural engineering specifications for product design and operation involving metals, non-metallic and composite structural materials
  • Analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
  • Prepare technical submittals, design proposals, drawing reviews, presentations, operating instructions, test procedures, maintenance procedures, work deferral requests and departure from specification requests
  • Perform dynamic structural shock analyses using FEA methods with FEMAP, NASTRAN, Abaqus, Hypermesh and government codes
  • Perform hand calculations using textbook methods
  • Develop engineering calculation reports and check structural analysis reports
  • Coordinate with design, test and construction teams and external customers including NAVSEA, General Dynamics Electric Boat and vendors
  • Support shock and vibration qualification of equipment
  • Support static and dynamic analyses of steel structures
  • Support naval shock and vibration analysis related to foundation design
  • Support submarine, aircraft carrier and battleship design, construction and overhaul programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to analyze structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials
  • Understanding of damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
  • Experience performing dynamic structural (shock) analyses using finite element analysis methods
  • Ability to perform hand calculations and develop engineering calculation reports
  • Ability to check structural analysis reports
  • Experience or familiarity with submarine or carrier ship systems and structure (nice to have)
  • Knowledge of structural fabrication, assembly, and final outfitting (nice to have)
  • Requirement Management and System Engineering Approach (nice to have)
  • Ability to read and understand system schematics and drawings (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with FEMAP, Abaqus, Teamcenter, Hypermesh, ATIS, DDMS, and/or MatLab (nice to have)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven technical writing ability (nice to have)
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams (nice to have)
  • SAP, TeamCenter, NGP, or NX software experience (nice to have)
  • Knowledge of SUBSAFE requirements (nice to have)
  • Prior leadership, testing, or shipyard integration experience (nice to have)
  • DOD Security Clearance preferred, but not required to start
