About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support construction, maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN 68 and CVN 78 Class aircraft carriers
- Support research and development, specialized technical assignments, and cost reduction initiatives
- Provide oversight, expertise, and design guidance for survivability systems
- Work with other disciplines to maintain survivability requirements
- Serve as a prime technical contact on projects and potentially act in a project leadership role
- Resolve complex technical problems using expertise across related disciplines
- Perform technical evaluations and analyses of survivability structural designs, including weapons effects, material qualifications, NDT, high-strain rate analyses, FEA, and structural modernization
- Perform technical analyses using U.S. Navy specifications and Technical Manuals
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of analyses, calculations, reports, drawings, and models
- Perform ship checks to validate designs and resolve waterfront issues
- Develop, document, and brief interdisciplinary teams on technical specifications, analyses, and calculations
- Provide waterfront and vendor support for fabrication and installation of survivability systems
- Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications for structural materials and product designs
- Analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowables, structural modeling, dynamics, loads, stability, stress fatigue, and thermal analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program required
- Must have the ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance
- U.S. citizenship required
- Technical knowledge in naval ship survivability and aircraft carrier protection systems
- Experience designing and maintaining naval ship structures, materials, welding, and non-destructive testing (NDT)
- Experience leading projects and assignments with interdisciplinary teams
- Experience developing schedules and budgets
- Working knowledge of Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems on Navy ships
- Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with Teamcenter/NX
- Experience performing technical evaluations and analysis
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
- Ability to work on-site; not eligible for telework
- Final clearance required to start
