About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research and study the structures and chemical properties of natural and manmade materials
  • Perform experiments and computer modeling
  • Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with specific properties
  • Test materials for conformance to specifications including mechanical strength, strength-weight ratio, ductility, magnetic and electrical properties, and resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and heat/cold
  • Recommend materials for reliable performance in various environments
  • Test products to ensure quality and safety standards are met

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Final clearance required to start
  • BS in Welding Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years of shipbuilding experience preferred
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
