About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Bring up new PCBs by validating power and clocks, connecting a debugger, enabling peripherals, and getting firmware running
- Develop and debug embedded C firmware on ARM Cortex-M-class microcontrollers
- Configure and drive companion ICs over I2C, SPI, or UART
- Implement and debug USB-C/USB-PD behavior, including power negotiation, source/sink roles, and fault handling
- Debug at the bench using an oscilloscope, protocol/logic analyzer, multimeter, SWD/JTAG debugger, and UART logging
- Work from datasheets, register tables, and schematics
- Document configurations and design decisions
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to isolate hardware versus firmware issues
- Take new USB-C Power Delivery controller-based hardware from bare PCB to production-quality firmware
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong embedded C on 32-bit MCUs (ARM Cortex-M or similar), including interrupts, register-level peripheral work, and development under flash/RAM constraints
- Working understanding of USB-C/USB-PD, including source/sink/DRP roles and power contract negotiation
- I2C/SPI/UART peripheral and companion-IC communication, configuration, and debug
- Hands-on hardware bring-up experience, taking a board from power-on to running firmware or debugging firmware against real hardware
- Datasheet and schematic literacy, including configuring parts from register tables and confirming pin/power connections
- Comfortable with oscilloscope, logic/protocol analyzer, SWD/JTAG debugger, UART logging, and multimeter
- Git proficiency
- Preferred: Experience with Cypress/Infineon MCU SDK/IDE and middleware such as ModusToolbox or STM32Cube, including creating/customizing a board support package
- Preferred: Firmware update/bootloader work, including DFU or equivalent update images
- Preferred: Power-path or regulator firmware, including VBUS control, OVP/UVP/OCP fault detection/recovery, and enable/soft-start sequencing
- Preferred: USB subsystem experience with hubs, DisplayPort Alt Mode, redrivers/retimers, or billboard devices
- Nice to have: Prior work with Infineon EZ-PD/PMG1 or Cypress CCGx PD controllers and ModusToolbox CI for embedded builds
- Nice to have: USB-IF PD compliance and USB-C requirements familiarity
