About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage direct report workloads and make staffing recommendations
- Conduct check-ins and yearly performance evaluations for direct reports
- Assess training and learning needs; train and support Safety Department members
- Review career path goals and provide career development feedback
- Participate in retention and recruiting of Safety Department team members
- Manage outside consultant project needs and performance
- Assess safety needs across multiple projects and/or business units
- Conduct on-site safety inspections using Predictive Solutions System
- Evaluate hazard, incident, and inspection data to identify trends and safety needs
- Set safety inspection criteria, expectations, and performance measures
- Mentor Operations/Site Operations on the safety inspection process
- Evaluate compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety regulations and procedures
- Evaluate and address subcontractor safety performance
- Review and distribute project safety inspections, open issue summaries, and evaluations
- Research and evaluate current and future OSHA regulations
- Lead OSHA or third-party safety inspections
- Lead crisis or accident/incident response and investigations
- Develop and deliver toolbox meetings, project safety orientations, and just-in-time on-site training
- Develop and review Job Hazard Analyses
- Assist with preconstruction safety planning and lead select subcontractor safety preconstruction meetings
- Develop Site Specific Safety Plans and address special client or condition requirements
- Audit project safety signage and documentation requirements
- Identify safety and protective equipment needs and research new safety products
- Collaborate with project teams on safety stand-downs
- Develop and execute department and business unit safety goals
- Conduct and develop in-house safety training
- Prepare monthly safety summaries for assigned business units
- Serve as point of contact for Predictive Solutions and Toolbox Talks processes
- Maintain positive relationships with project teams and subcontractors
- Respond to safety concerns from clients, tenants, or affected members of the public
- Collaborate with the corporate Risk Management Team
- Participate in safety and construction professional organization meetings
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in safety or related field preferred
- CHST, CSP or equivalent professional safety designation
- First Aid/CPR certification
- OSHA 30 Hour for construction; OSHA 500 preferred
- Degree and five years of experience or eight or more years of construction safety experience; other professional experience/skills may act as a substitute
- Comprehensive understanding of high hazard technical areas, including cranes, fall protection, scaffold, excavation, and electrical
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to assess and prioritize multiple business unit needs, tasks, projects and demands
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to adapt to flexible and changing schedules
- Strong analytical and research skills to define and solve problems
- Ability to work well independently
- Willingness to respond to emergency or crisis conditions
- Ability to work under various environmental or site conditions
- Ability to navigate stairs, ladders and uneven floors or ground conditions
- Sets an example for safe work practices on and off work sites
